Week 5
This week we were asked to view MySpace and Facebook pages and to explore how libraries were using them. MySpace and Facebook are blocked at my school and they would not allow access. I tried viewing the libraries listed that use MySpace, but they were also blocked!I did a Google search and read a about MySpace and Facebook and libraries. A lot of libraries seem to ban them which generates a lot of discussion, especially about a need to develop a policy and the issue of personal safety. Along with the negatives, there were some positives with a need to embrace MySpace and Facebook and to use them as a tools to reach users! A lot of the use of MySpace and Facebook seems to reflect an engaging in a social context, but I think it is still evolving. It made me think of a couple of questions – what makes these sites so successful that people want to participate and share? and what can we learn about information delivery from them??
